Nayagarh boy Ashirwad Behera and Bhubaneswar girl Rutumbara Bidhar bagged titles in the Odisha State Sub-junior Chess Championship, which concluded at D S Law College in Kendrapara today.
In the seven-round boys’ category, top seed Ashirwad won six games and drew one against Subhasis Barik in the fourth round. Sangram Keshari Sahoo of Puri finished runner-up with six points. He also won six games, but lost to Ashirwad in the second round.
Girls’ top seed Rutumbara drew her fifth and last game against Shreejita Khuntia after winning the first four. Shreejita settled as runner-up with four points. As many as 39 boys and 17 girls participated in the three-day competition.
Top two finishers in both the categories qualified to represent Odisha in the Sub-junior National Chess Championship, scheduled to be held at Jammu from September 21 to 29.

Boys: 1. Ashirwad Swain (6.5), 2. Sangram Keshari Sahoo (6), 3. Ansuman Samal (5.5), 4. Pranab Kumar Patra (5), 5. Animesh Patra (5).
Girls: 1. Rutumbara Bidhar (4.5), 2. Shreejita Khuntia (4), 3. Pratyusha Priyadarshini (4), 4. Sovna Sonali Jena (3.5), 5. Anisha Mishra (3.5).
